About This Item

London: Hopwood & Crew, 1905. Softcover. Good. First edition thus. Folio. Two nested bifoliums with a single sheet insert making ten pages. Outer bifolium separated at the fold and lacking the rear cover (but the music remains complete), inner bifolium mostly separated along the fold, owner signature, music shop stamp, and rubber name stamp on the front cover, bumping to the corners, and rubbing to the front cover, a good only copy. For voice and piano. Plate imprint, "H & C Ltd. 4274." There is a variant printing of this song from the same publisher in the same year that excludes the third verse that is featured here. The rubber name stamp is that of actor and theater manager Frank Curzon, with a notice printed on the front cover that reads, "Application for right of performing the above Musical Comedy, must be made to Mr. Frank Curzon, Prince of Wale's Theatre, London." This song is by the celebrated English humorist, Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse, and was the first piece of writing he did for the theater. *OCLC* locates six holdings.
