London : Hodder and Stoughton A fair copy with 40 tipped-in colour plates by W Heath Robinson. Undated but probably 1908 - the first trade edition. In the original green decorative cloth binding with gilt titles and designs to front board and spine. Classed overall as 'fair' because the binding has considerable patchy fading, particularly to the back board. The front top corner is bumped with cloth damage. The original decorative endpapers are present with browning to the joint at the front and more prominently to the rear. There is a small signature dated 1940 to the fep. Contents with tipped in frontispiece and tissue guard, title, illustration list and text with a further 39 tipped in colour plates. The plates are tipped onto white card and have gilt decorative borders. Contents are in very good condition being clean with the occasional light mark - the most obvious of which is a dark mark in the gutter at pp 143/4. Plates clean and bright.
