Hardcover, original green cloth with mounted illustration on cover as issued, gilt title lettering on spine and front cover. 500 pages, colored frontis of Ekoi Girl in Fatting House costume, numerous illustrations from photos, folding drawing of wall decoration, folding map colored in outline in rear in excellent condition. The author traveled extensively in the Oban District of Southern Nigeria and part of the Cameroons to study the Ekoi people as well as the natural history of the area in 1907. Included are chapters on religion, Egbo, Jujus, position of women, birth customs, divination, witchcraft, funeral ceremonies, war, government, folk-lore, etc, with detailed appendices on taboos, clubs, anthropometrics, orthography, grammar, vocabularies, botany, zoology, mineralogy, meteorology, geography. Book is ex-lib with only envelope and stickers to front fly leaf. Spine shows edgewear, fraying to top and bottom. Rubbing to pastedown on cover. Otherwise the book is tight and clean.
