About This Item

New York: The Dial Press (A Delacorte Press Book). Near Fine in Very Good dj. 1964. First Edition. Hardcover. [nice clean book, very slight bump to bottom front corner but no other discernible wear; jacket a bit scuffed on front panel]. "A frank report from the campus on sex in the Sixties. Based on interviews with over 600 college students from 102 American colleges and universities, including every geographical location, religious affiliation and type of institution, this is a revealing and often startling look at today's college girl and the revolution in campus sexual behavior. ... In the amazingly honest words of the girls themselves, here is what they think about sex, what they do and don't do about it, where and when their sexual activities take place, the role of love, what the boys think about girls, what professors, psychiatrists, parents and harassed deans say." (Oh, dear, the poor harassed deans!) The author went on to become a pioneering modern restaurant critic, and in light of the subject matter of this early work, her second book, I can't resist Wikipedia's observation that she "often employs sexual metaphors in describing food, both as a way to convey the intensity of the experience and because for her 'sex and food have always been deeply intertwined.'" And can I just say how much I love the dust jacket design on this book (alas, uncredited)? .
