The first book to survey and analyze the development of European interior decoration in these three countries, following the stimulus of the Italian Renaissance, whilte relating it to th echanges in the political structure and social habits of the landed classes at the end of the 16th century. Includes the role of the architect, the upholsterer, and the furniture maker in the creation of fashionable interiors. Special attention as well to the designers and craftsmen and the materials and techniques used.
