About This Item
Lewis, Frederick C. NASH, Frederick. A SERIES OF VIEWS...OF THE COLLEGIATE CHAPEL OF ST. GEORGE, WINDSOR. London: The Author, 1805. Folio. Publisher's half-morocco. 10 pages, 9 plate First edition. [Abbey, Scenery, 354]. This is the first published work by Frederick Nash's (1782-1856), a very nice copy, complete with a separately printed publisher's prospectus. The work is collection of nine views drawn and etched by Nash, and finished in sepia aquatints by Frederick C. Lewis and others. The illustrations show exterior interior views of St. George's Chapel, including elevations for details, and windows in the nave, aisles, and choir. Nash was a pupil of Thomas Malton th younger before entering the Royal Academy; his works include Twelve Views of Antiquities of London (1805-1810), Picturesque Views of the City of Paris and its Environs (1820-1823), and more. At the time of his death, Nash was considered to be the finest architectural painter of his day. Edges rubbed, some light rubbing to the marbled paper boards but generally a very good, unsophisticated copy in its original binding. Nash's first printed work is m uncommon, OCLC cites six copies only in American libraries. It is rare in th contemporary binding and rarer still complete with the printed prospectus. (11203).
