About This Item
1890. Original photograph. Very Good. The boy is dressed in a frilly white shirt, large bow tie, short pants, long stockings, and leather high-button shoes, his right hand resting on a stool. Oval photograph (3.5" x 2.5") is mounted on heavy card stock (6.75" x 4.75"), printed "Anderson, Necedah, Wis." Written in ink on the verso is "Uncle Newton." The photographer, G.W. Anderson, is listed in the Wisconsin Photographers Index as active in "1905-1906??" We would place this image in the 1890s. Necedah, named by the Chippewa Indians, lies in Juneau County. Settlers began to arrive in the 1840s. The town became an important lumber center, with logs shipped down the Yellow River and into the Wisconsin River to Galena, Illinois.
