John Dent & Sons Ltd, 1908. Cloth. Very Good. Everyman Library Edition; xii, 387pp, Green cloth covers, with gilt titling to spine, illustrated jesuit end papers. One of 8 volumes. Richard Hakluyt was born in 1552 and took Holy Orders, and in 1593 he became Archdeacon of Westminster. He died in 1616 and is buried in Westminster Abbey. Edited by Ernest Rhys and introduced by John Masefield. A history of noteworthy British voyages from earliest times, starting with King Arthur's voyage to Iceland in 517. "The full title of the great work commonly known as Hakluyt's Voyages is The Principal Navigations, Voyages, and Discoveries of the English Nation made by Sea or over Land to the most remote and farthest distant quarters of the earth, at any time within the compass of these 1,500 years. It was first published in 1589, and it its final form, in three folio volumes in 1599. In the three sections of the work, the first deals with voyages to the northern regions.
