About This Item
New York: Random House, 1938. First edition. Cloth. Very Good/good +. 8vo. 622 pp. First edition of this collection of poems by the noted California poet. A very good copy in tan buckram covers in a good price intact dustwrapper. Wrapper has paper loss at the top of spine area and the front flap is separating at seam. This, a notable ASSOCIATION COPY is from the library of Jeffers' patron and friend Albert M. Bender with his bookplate afixed to the inside front pastedown. Bender has inscribed this copy on to Otis Skinner in 1938. Jeffers has not only warmly INSCRIBED this copy to Bender and dated it in Carmel in 1938, but has also added a handwritten passage from page 594 of this book. A superb association copy to Bender who was a well-known patron of the California arts and artists of his day including Jeffers from the early days of his career. They became close friends and correspondents and even traveling companions. Bender is also known for playing a key role in the early careers of both Ansel Adams and Diego Rivera.
