About This Item
New York: New Directions, 1949. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/very good. First edition, one of a limited 100 copies signed by Thomas Merton on the limitation page. Bound in publisher's original burlap-covered boards with white title label printed in green on upper board and spine, vivid green topstain. Book is completely fine -- tiny bookseller ticket only, looks unread. The jacket for the signed copies is the same as the regular edition but with the $3.00 price neatly trimmed off. The jacket here is very good -- clean and nice but with a single thin scratch on the spine that trims the left edge off one letter. The slipcase, with the $7.50 price, has some surface paper splits and a small ding, but no actual splits to the box -- solidly very good. All and all, a wonderfully fresh copy of the signed edition in very presentable jacket and box.
