Dark blue boards with bright gilt titling to the spine and gilt decoration to the front cover. In the original publisher's pictorial dustjacket which is NOT price-clipped. There is VERY slight wrinkling to the dustjacket edges (negligible) and there is a small passage (6 lines) of Bernard Berenson's Introductory Letter UNDERLINED in red pen, otherwise there are NO Inscriptions or other Marks. Translated from the Italian by Eric Mosbacher and Guido Waldman. With an introductory Letter by Bernard Berenson (xxii) + 425 pp. Illustrated with b/w plates. Glossary; Bibliography; Index. Overall, apart from the few lines in the Introduction that are underlined as noted above, this is an Excellent, Clean, Tight and Bright ''As New" copy. "Fosco Maraini visited Tibet in 1937 and again in 1948. In 1951, Secret Tibet was first published as a synthesis of these two journeys. Since then this book has been revised, augmented and updated to reflect the Chinese destruction of Tibet's heritage." ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .

Synopsis

Fosco Maraini was born in Florence in 1912. An anthropologist by training, after his first visit to Tibet he was trapped in Japan by the outbreak of war, and taught in the University of Kyoto until interned. In addition to his writing he has been a broadcaster, documentary film-maker, and professor at the University of Florence. From 1959 to 1964 he was Fellow at St Antony’s College, Oxford.
