A short version of this tale first appeared July 1897 in Lippincott's Magazine as "A Mountain Moloch" and in book form is 1900, published by G P Putnam's Sons. Evoking H. Rider Haggard and Jules Verne, the tale involves an explorer who discovers a Lost Race of Carthaginians on a Pacific Island, a beautiful princess [and love interest[ and the perfunctory volcano. No previous ownership marks. A clean, square, unmarked copy. Slight crease to spine from reading. Near fine.. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Near Fine/Not Issued. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
