Some light spotting to a few pages but overall a very good copy in recent leather binding by Sangorski and Sutcliffe for Asprey. Half dark blue morocco, five raised bands to spine, each with gilt dotting. Compartments ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt. Blue cloth on boards with single gilt ruled border on leather edges. Top edge gilt. Marbled endpapers. Housed in a felt lined slip case with blue cloth covering. Aside from some light spotting to the tissue guards this is a bright and clean copy throughout. Finely bound in nineteenth century full burgundy morocco. Spine with four wide raised bands, each with gilt box ruling. Compartments triple ruled and lettered in gilt. Boards with five ruled line gilt borders. Board edges and turn-ins with gilt decorative roll. All edges gilt. Yellow coated endpapers. Some minor wear to the edges of the binding but overall a very good and attractive copy of this rare work, both inside and out. Two leaves duplicated and incorrectly inserted into the end of volume two, namely 2 pages from the index which appears in volume 3 have been bound in in error, one where page 513/4 should be (easy to see how, both leaves share the signature Ll), the other at the end of the text where a blank should be, and the two leaves of Appendix are bound in the wrong order but complete. A neat previous owner name to the top of the title page in volume 3. Some foxing and offsetting of the text block to a few leaves in each volume, particularly the first pages of volume one, but overall a very good set. A fine copy in a beautiful designer binding by The Ashley Bindery, of Somerset. Stamped to the rear inner board- 19 AB 81. Full black morocco with multi colour design of two boxed lines in brown morocco across both boards and the spine, with tan, green and red design within each box. The spine is also lettered in gilt. Wood effect endpapers. All edges gilt. Housed in a felt lines chemise with the same wood effect paper on the boards and a black morocco spine, lettered in gilt and with one of the red designs onlaid between the title and authors. Finely bound by Cedric Chivers of bath in early twentieth century binding of full plum morocco. Spine with raised bands, the compartments ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt. Decorative line and floral design to both boards. Board edges double ruled in gilt. Mottled coloured endpapers. Turn ins with double ruled lines and floral design. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Two previous owner bookplates on the front paste down endpaper. A little fading to the spine but overall a very near fine copy.

E Typographeo Clarendoniano. Sumptibus Academiae. Oxonii. 1763. FIRST BASKERVILLE EDITION. 4to in 2's. (12.2 x 9.7 inches). Half title, Title page, 415pp. One of 500 copies printed, using the fine Baskerville Greek type. A clean and crisp copy in a very good contemporary leather binding of full diced dark brown calf boards, with floral gilt roll borders. Professionally re-spined at a later date with a matching coloured Morocco spine, ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt. Board edges ruled in gilt. Marbled endpapers. Gilt inner dentelles. All edges marbled. A small patch of rubbing to the front free endpaper and some rubbing and bumping to the edges but overall a very good copy of this beautifully printed book in an attractive 18th century binding.

The compartments rule, lettered, and fully decorated with floral devices, all in gilt. Both boards with matching triple ruled borders and decorative floral, dot and ruled line design. Board edges with single gilt ruled lines. Turn-ins decorated with triple ruled lines, dots and floral devices, all in gilt. Plain green endpapers. All edges gilt. A lovely copy of this 19th century poem in a fine, highly attractive, but sadly unsigned by the binder, leather binding.
