First Edition; 8vo; pp. 208; folding b/w frontispiece, 34 pages b/w plates, indexes; brown cloth with gilt title on spine, as issued colour illustration pasted to front board, spine bumped, previous owner's bookplate on front endpaper, a good copy. Includes a 'Chronology of curious and interesting facts relating to old Van Diemen's Land, and (from 1856) to Tasmania.' Folding b/w frontispiece of floating Bridge, b/w illustrations include penny farthing race in early nineties, 8 oar boat crews, wooden bone shaker bicycles predating the Penny Farthing, much on Yacht racing from 1898 including the Forster Cup, , First Hobart petrol-driven driven motor car and the last of the horse drawn Hobart Cab and Cabman. A cabin boy deserts his ship in 1789 to become the first white settler in Tasmania and does not see another white person for 25 years and much on Martin Cash and his Lady Companion, whaling, Power Stations and much more.
