London: George G. Harrap & Co.. 1932. First UK edition. 284pp, frontis & 31 plates (half-tone photographs). Original navy blue cloth, title blocked in gilt on spine and in blind on the upper board; extremities a trifle rubbed. Bookplates of the National Maritime Museum on front paste-down, and what would seem to have been a small ink stamp on the rear paste-down obscured with liquid paper. Edges a little yellowed, as are some of the plates, otherwise a good to very good clean copy. *** The first two chapters concern Captain Anton Larsen, the Norwegian whaling captain. Villiers accompanied Larsen's 1924 whaling expedition to the southern oceans - aboard the mother ship 'Sir James Clark Ross' which left from Hobart - and wrote his first book about the experience. .
