The text is illustrated with reproductions of illustrations by various artists. Bright blue coloured boards with silver coloured titles. Illustrated dustwrapper with brown coloured titles to the front panel and blue and brown coloured titles to the back strip. Beginning with the first 'settler' stories of the 19th century, often written by authors who had never left England, Betty Gilderdale traces the development of junior fiction about New Zealand by New Zealanders from 1833 to the present." – from the front panel blurb.
