First collected edition issued by Silber, divided into 4 parts: De re militari; Aelianus Tacticus: De instruendis aciebus [translated by Theodorus Gaza]; Frontinus: Strategematicon; Pseudo-Modestus: De vocabulis rei militaris [edited by Joannes Sulpicius Verulanus]; the date occurs at the end of each part. Small 4to, approximately 200 x 135 mm, 7¾ x 5¼ inches, first leaf blank to recto and on verso editor's prefatory epistle, no title page as issued, no signatures, catchwords or numbering, text in Latin, initial spaces with printed guides, [a-f8 g10; h-i8 k4 l8; m-r8; s6], 33 lines to a full page, 140 leaves (280 pages) including 1 blank, 24 pages with text illustrations depicting tactical formations, bound in full crushed morocco by Hardy-Menil, his name in minute gilt letters in the dentelles at the foot of the first pastedown, gilt lettering and decoration to spine, gilt coat of arms of Mornay-Soult, Marquis de Mornay-Montchevreuil with motto "Arte et Marte" to upper and lower covers, double gilt rules to edges of covers, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, gilt decorated red morocco label of Henry Huth to first pastedown. Tip of top corner of 2nd leaf missing, not near text, 2 small marginal tears with slight loss, not near text, several margins with slight soiling and pale age-browning, occasional printer's ink spot, otherwise a very good clean attractive copy.
