Bound in dark blue cloth with silver lettering on spine. In the illustrated dust jacket that's price-clipped and shows light edge-wear. First edition of the author's first novel, begun after he left advertising after realizing "no reconciliation of serious writing with dog food was possible" (dust jacket copy). The dust jacket illustration, uncredited, presents a stylized Manhattan city block in arch art-deco style. Dust jacket now enclosed in a removable, clear archival sleeve.

There is very light rubbing to the cloth and faint touches of tanning to the endpapers. Otherwise clean, bright, square, and soundly bound. No previous ownership markings. The dustjacket, glossy in a mylar sleeve, is lightly rubbed and scratched and has shallow chipping at the extremities; the original price is intact. Perhaps best known for his 'Bucks County Trilogy,' this is a nice copy of the author's first novel -- scarce in jacket.
