About This Item

Foreword by Air Chief Marshal Sir Peter Harding, KCB, CBIM, FRAeS RAF, Air Officer Commander-in Chief, Royal Air Force Strike Command, preface by author, for appendices and index. Map illustrated end pages showing the battle of Britain and where the RAF squadrons were stationed. The text is illustrated with to inserts, of 8 pages each of black-and-white photography. Navy blue coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Photographic dustwrapper with blue and red coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Black and white photograph of author to the rear fold over panel. "In the summer of 1940, two things stood between Great Britain and invasion by the forces of Nazi Germany: the English Channel and the Royal Air Force. Without absolute supremacy in the skies, Hitler could not risk his armies on the open sea. Goring insisted his Luftwaffe could crush Fighter Command in a matter of weeks. In Britain, there were pilots, gunners, groundscrewmen and operational staff ready to dispute that claim. This unique narrative history of the conflict that insured is based around interviews with survivors, diaries, letters, combat reports and official papers, allowing the men and women involved in the Battle of Britain at all levels to tell their own story for the first time." – from front fold over panel blurb. A little rubbing of the book edges. Age toning of the text block edges and pages. Dust marks and the occasional foxing spots to the top text edge. Creasing of the dustwrapper edges and rubbing of the panels. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [6], VII - XIII, [1] 285, [3] pages,. Please refer to accompanying picture (s).
