Red cloth with white cloth spine. Title in black on spine. Top edge gilt. Stated "published November, 1906" on copyright page. Solid text block, lightly bumped edges, loss of white stamping to title on front cover. Previous ownership inscription on front free endpaper. Laid-in review notice from publisher, listing the price as $1.25. One of Jack London's most scarce publications, with only 920 copies in the initial printing. (Sisson & Martens 32) (BAL 11898). Jack London (1876-1916) was one of the first American authors to gain international fame and accumulate wealth from his writing. Despite his popularity, London never received any literary awards for his work. London is remembered today through retellings of his stories on film and television, most recently in a movie adaptation of The Call of the Wild starring Harrison Ford.
