Brief biographical accounts of three representatives of each of 4 'types': 'Individual Investigators', Teachers, Scientific Inventors, Organizers. Rayleigh, Thomas Young, T.H.Huxley, Tyndall, De Morgan, Babbage & Airy among those covered. Crowther was an extremely prolific popular science writer of the mid-20th century.
