About This Item

New York: Harper & Row, 1977. Hardcover. Near Fine/Good To Good Plus. The second novel in Maling's mystery-suspense series featuring Brock Potter, head of a New York City brokerage firm that is sent into a tailspin when one of the partners seems headed for a breakdown and suicide. A Harper Novel of Suspense. First edition, first printing (as stated, with complete numberline. About 5 1/2 x 8 1/8 inches, 204 pages in green paper-covered boards with black cloth backstrip and white lettering on spine. The pictorial dustjacket's front panel shows a hand holding a light green ball hovering above a box with numbered pockets, two with balls already in them and three more resting on the table holding the box. Predominant color is green, with white lettering. Dj's back panel shows seven blurbs in white lettering against a black background praising Maling's first novel in the series, "Ripoff." Boards and text are complete, clean and unmarked; binding is tight and square. Not ex-library, not remaindered. Dj shows a half-inch tear with creasing at top of front panel and a 3/4 inch tear on fold between front panel and front flap, o/w minimal surface and edge wear. Dj not price-clipped. If you like mysteries involving finance and money mixed with good writing and suspense, Maling, an underappreciated 1960s-'70s writer, is worth investigating.
