The essential 19th century source book for the career and architectural work of Karl Friedrich Schinkel, the dominant figure in German architecture for much of the first forty years of the century. Von Wolzogen, Schinkel's son-in-law, prints in these four volumes Schinkel's surviving travel journals, recording visits by him to Italy, France and England; family and other correspondence, including all the important documents relating to Schinkel's celebrated design for the Altes Museum in Berlin; and a complete and very useful catalogue of Schinkel's surviving architectural drawings.
