London : Tinsley Brothers, 1869. First edition. Stories, poems and occasional pieces by the gifted members of the Savage Club, assembled to finance their charitable work. Contributors include Dion Boucicault, George Manville Fenn, George Grossmith, Andrew Halliday himself, Arthur Locker, John Oxenford, J. R. Planché, George Augustus Sala, Walter Thornbury, etc. With illustrations by Frederick Barnard, George Cruikshank, Gustave Doré, Gordon Thompson, Harrison Weir and many others, all engraved by the Dalziel Brothers. Crown 8vo (20cm). 352pp. Additional decorative title (dated 1868). Plates and decorations. Music, etc. Original red cloth decorated in gilt and blind; spine a touch darkened and slightly nicked at head; some minor wear and a few slight marks, but a good and sound copy. With the contemporary armorial bookplate of Holroyd Chaplin (1840-1917), a well-to-do solicitor educated at Tonbridge School and London University.
