About This Item

New York: Burgess, Stringer & Company, 1845. First American Edition. Very Good binding. The BAL notes that while Satanstoe was issued as a two volume set in yellow wrappers, it was "[a]lso issued two-volumes-in-one, bound in black T cloth, stamped in gold and in blind. In this form the book appears to be made up of the sheets of the wrappered issue, shorn of the advertisements." It is noted that "Copies at NYHS Y. ALB July, 1845, listed the book in both paper; and, in cloth" [BAL, 3915]. This copy of the two-volumes-in-one in later half-calf over marbled boards with the cloth covers and spine bound in. The leather binding is lacking the labels. The British Edition has priority by a few days. (BAL 3915). Very Good binding.
