This very rare was book written by Her Majesty's Commission- er in Borneao, Rajah of Sarawak, Governor of Labuh-an. It is the personal narrative of some 30 months residence and the West coast of Boreno. His object was to make a collection of plants and seeds, study the tribes of aborigines. Brooke saw more of these tribes than any other Englishman or Europ- ean who visited those shores. A valuable history of the flo- ra and fauna, ethnology of the people, the land & life style of the Dyaks & Kykans. Of monkeys, orang utan, panther, reptiles, domestic fowls & animals. The Malays, aborigines, Dutch, English settlements,Muller's expedition,slave debtors Arab descendants. Piracy, opium smoking, exports, manners of women, price of a wife. Sea-Dyaks, tribes of, language, lack of manners, cookery, their women, head hunting. Hill-Dyaks, "Taboo," Land-Dyaks, bridges, marriage, head-taking. Kyans- their foes the Dyaks. Tattooing, dress, war dress, business. .
