About This Item

Oxford: The Clarendon Press, 1975. Cloth. Fine. 8.5" by 5.5". None. A very smart copy of this unfinished novel from Austen, reproduced in facsimile from the original manuscript. Reproduced in facsimile from the manuscript in the possession of King's College, Cambridge. Originally titled The Brothers and later titled Sanditon, this unfinished novel written between January and mid-March 1817, centres on Charlotte Heywood, the eldest of the daughters still at home in the large family of a country gentleman from Willingden, Sussex. The novel was adapted into a television series in 2019, with the writers completing the story with the use of the developed characters. Written by Jane Austen, an English novelist, known for her social commentary on British landed gentry at the end of the eighteenth century. With an introduction from Brian C. Southam, a British literary critic and former Chairman of the Jane Austen Society. In the original quarter cloth binding with brown paper covered boards. Externally, excellent. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Fine
