Boston: Lee and Shepard, 1871. Hardcover. Very Good. A Very Good volume - EARLY edition (No jacket), with decorative gilt spine titles. Spine cloth has sunned and is rubbed. Crown and foot of spine cloth have started to fray. Original yellow end-papers (which are the publishers advertisements for their back titles). Tissue guard in place on frontis. Only end-papers are lightly foxed. Twenty (20) short stories, including his famed "Elfin Hill"; The Mud-Kings Daughter; "The Girl Who Trod Upon Bread"; plus 17 more wonderful tales. A small Copperplate owners name on blank front free- end paper (c 1870s). Top of closed page edges have several micro ink dots', probably made by a bored student. (see photo).Does not detract from this hard to find early edition. 284 pages. Protected in a mylar slip.
