The dust jacket is chipped with tears & pieces out & with a few small stains. There is a sticker on its rear panel. x & 451 pages. Illustrated with 6 black-and-white plates, including a portrait frontispiece. A previous owner's bookplate is mounted on the front pastedown. The fore-edge & bottom edge are foxed & there is scattered light foxing throughout. Good.

First edition.

This third book by Arthur Bryant on the life of Pepys "tells the dramatic story of Pepys' second Secretaryship to the Admiralty where by his industry, his care for detail and his clear-cut principles he made himself supreme." [From the dust wrapper copy].
