About This Item

Minor shelf/edge wear to blue cloth boards with white titles and red, white and blue spine accents - corners sharp with a touch of wear to the tips. Minor shelf/edge wear and very minor chipping (top and bottom of spine) to original unclipped DJ - now in mylar. Previous owner name and address label on inside front cover. No notes - all pages are clean and crisp. Joseph Wittlin (1896-1976) was a Polish novelist, poet and translator. Wittlin is designated by Arthur Prudden Coleman in the Saturday Review of Literature - the giant of Polish letters. This novel, Salt of the Earth, won the Polish Academy Prize, became famous throughout Europe (translated into nine languages) and caused Whittling to be nominated for the Nobel Prize. It is the story of an ordinary soldier and the first four weeks of the First World War. In Wittlin's mind, it was the nameless, long-suffering foot soldier, who are and always will be, the real heroes and that trivial everyday incidents are the most important ones in life. Handsome vintage First Edition in the original DJ. Very Scarce. LOC FB-02
