Philadelphia: Ferris & Leach, 1902. First Printing. Hardcover. Ex-library. Sally Wister, edited by Albert Cook Myers. Sally Wister's Journal, A True Narrative, Being a Quaker Maiden's Account of Her Experiences with Officers of the Continental Army, 1777-1778. With Reproductions of Portraits, Manuscripts, Relics and Views. Philadelphia, Ferris & Leach, 1902, First Printing. Yellow cloth hc with dark-blue cover design with cameo silhouette, two-tone Continental officer on spine, 8vo (20 cm), 224 rough-cut pp including front matter and index, color frontispiece plus 36 illustrated plates, illustrated chapter headers and in-text illustrations and facsimile signatures. With correspondence cut off during the British occupation of Philadelphia, young Sally Wister keeps a journal with intended address to her schoolmate friend. Her family's home in a nearby town hosts Continental officers; Cook writes, "Generals, colonels, majors, captains, resplendent in red and buff and blue, and glittering in sashes, swords and epaulets, pass and repass before the unaccustomed and daxxled eyes of the Quaker maiden, and are quaintly portrayed in her pages." Appendices contain correspondence with her friends. Good- (no DJ): ex-library with stamps and stickers, worn and faded covers with hinges cracking, light bleedthrough from color plates, no noticeable internal markings except the occasional library stamp.
