London: The Scientific Press, Limited, 1898 Book. Illus. by Sixty B & W Photos, Including 11 Plates, and a Foldout Map. Good. 1/4 Paper on Paper Boards. Inscribed and Signed By Author. First Edition. 6 x 9 Inches. White 1/4 paper over red paper boards with gilt angel decoration on cover and gilt lettering on spine. Hand-soiling and spots to covers and spine. Significant edgewear to paper. Large gouge in center of bottom edge of front cover. This is an interesting travelogue of a trip taken by rail in Russian Central Asia over a two-month period in late 1897. Lots of black and white photos, and a fold-out map in the back. This copy was presented by the author to Canadian Captain (E.F.) Mackie in 1901 who was an important commanding officer travelling home from the Boer War at the time. 198 pp..
