About This Item
London: Bunny and Gold, 1801. First edition. Hardcover. Good. 6 x 9 1/2 in. Vol 1 - dedication pg, preface, list of plates, 535 pgs, plus 1 pg on 'Coursing'. Vol 2 - 378 pgs, plus pg on the publication with list of plates on the other side. Vol 3 (supplementary volume) contents, list of plates, 356 pgs. Deep cobalt blue full calf with gilt outer dentelle and tooled decorative border inside, 4 raised bands on spine with gilt lettering and ruled compartments. Marbled sides to text block. A contemporary binding. Vol 1 contains the requisite prints - title pg plus 19 plates, some are fold-out, Vol 2 and 3 contain the requisite title pg plys 42 plates. All are present as called for. First edition. Condition of books is GOOD ; corners, edges and sides of spine rubbed and somewhat worn, outer joints are just slightly cracked, as leather is a bit dry there. Covers evince some light scuffing, but the leather is lovely to the touch and blue still rich with no spots or fading. Bindings are tight in vols 1 and 2, ever so slighly loose in 3. Vol 1 has tear to lower rear spine and vol 3 to upper front. All spines have lost most of their gilding. All vols show mild foxing, to text and plates, but it is sporadic, with many pgs having no foxing at all, while the plates all have mild to moderate foxing. First signature in Vol 1 is detached, but present. A classic in a lovely, contemporary binding. Sport. RGR.
