Edmund Dulac. 8vo (8" x 5 7/8"), blue cloth with title surrounded by Art Nouveau gilt designs on spine and more boldly with facing elephants holding up the embossed "tent" gilt title on front cover; illustrated with a gorgeous colored frontispiece and 11 colored plates tipped-in & mounted on thick light brown paper with decorative borders & protected by tissue guards with printed descriptions [book printed in Edinburgh by Turnbull & Spears]; pictorial endpapers with light green Art Nouveau designs against pale yellow, unpaginated, viii + 189 pages. The Fitzgerald text consists of two English language versions of The Rubaiyat from the First and Second Edition. The Edmund Dulac illustrated Rubáyát of Omar Khayyám is generally considered the high point of Dulac's artistry and was an immediate, enormous success. Edmund Dulac (1882 - 1953) was a French born & British-naturalised magazine illustrator, brilliant book illustrator, and stamp designer.<br/><br/>The Fitzgerald translation remains the perennial favorate. This text consists of two English language versions of The Rubaiyat from the First and Second Edition by Fitzgerald.<br/> <br/>Solid copy with moderate wear; bright gilt on spine and front cover; light uniform age-toning to pages, and slight foxing on pages i-v. Presentation on verso of half title by previous owner is dated 1918. Back cover by top of gutter has a 1" narrow ink stain. The beautiful Dulac illustrations are all present and in EXCELLENT CONDITION and without foxing.<br/><br/>Overall, a beautifully illustrated copy of this classic poem.
