About This Item
New York: The Macaulay Company, 1930 Burgundy boards, 320 pp, presumed 1st U.S. Edition. Jacket remnants have been glued to fep and inner front cover showing art deco blonde woman in pink hat, $2.00 price and front panel blurb describing novel as a masterpiece and stating that the continental public holds Heinrich Mann in as high esteem as his brother and Nobel prizewinner, Thomas Mann. On front board in yellow crayon (?) is the annotation, "Absorbing translation. x." There is also a stamp on the first page stating "please return in 7 days." Book is soiled, stained, binding is cracked, spine is cocked and torn. Top edge is stained burgundy. Other edges dustsoiled. Just short of unacceptable, but it is not a common book and the piece of dust jacket is attractive!
