London. 1968. 18mo, 160pp. Hardcover in brown publishers cloth with pictorial non price-clipped d/w in very good condition with minor fraying of upper and lower edges, now protected by clear archival covering, text in excellent condition with no foxing and only a prior owner's small stamp on upper ffep. The outbreak of WWII saw the Dutch Navy in decline but with some urgent rebuiding and with the war being largely a land campaign, partially uuncompleted and undamaged vessels became a very welcome ally to the hard-pressed British forces. . Not so fortunate as the Japanese Navy was unleashed in 1941, the Dutch Navy in the Middle East nevertheless drew the highest praise including a great reputation for outstanding design and technical prowess. The author has excellent b/w photos of the vessels in this small reference book that exhibits the features of great Dutch design and a fighting reputation.
