Containing a Concise Introduction to the Ground of Music; with a Choice Collection of Psalm Tunes; Calculated to Express Each Metre in Common Use, Distinctly and Emphatically. Collected from the Most Approved European and American Authors. Designed Particularly for Singing Schools in the United States. 40 pages with Index, plus 11 pages of MANUSCRIPT music at rear; decorative border on title page. Stephen Jenks (1772 - 1856) was a noted American Yankee tunesmith, teacher, and tunebook compiler. Previous owner signatures dated 1815 on front pastedown and title page. Shows significant wear and page toning, wooden boards cracked with very old tape repairs, pages trimmed. Remains a desirable copy of a very scarce title.. First Edition. Leather. Good. Oblong 12mo.
