A collection of wise and intellectual essays called the 'Roundabout Papers' by William Makepeace Thackeray, originally published in the Cornhill Magazine. Including the essays 'On a Lazy Idle Boy', 'Tunbridge Toys', 'On a Hundred Years Hence', 'A Mississippi Bubble', and more.Also including The Second Funeral of Napoleon, The Four Georges, The English Humourists of the Eighteenth Century, and 'Critical Reviews and Selections from Punch'. William Makepeace Thackeray (1811-1863) was an English novelist known for his satirical and humorous works, most notable Vanity Fair (1847), which painted a panoramic portrait of upper class British Society. This edition includes numerous illustrations by the author. Containing the bookplate of 'James McLean' to the front pastedown. Handsomely bound in half calf with marbled boards and endpapers. Externally, lovely, with just a small touch of shelf wear. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Near Fine
