Dilling purports to identify dozens of New Deal administrations with ties to Socialism and the Communist Party, then tars members of Roosevelt's cabinet with the same brush - pioneering a technique that would be used to great effect by the Dies Committee and Joseph McCarthy in later years. This is the copy of noted American journalist Dorothy Thompson, with her bookplate to front pastedown. Thompson is pictured on p.59 of the book, seated beside her husband the novelist Sinclair Lewis.
