Visually the exterior appearance is exceptional and particularly internally,is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of its 50 -year-old age. It really is an exceptional, exemplary example for its cleanliness, brightness and lack of detracting faults.
This volume covers Spike's march to war in the desert: a tragi-comic saga of bawdy farce mixed with introspection and day-to-day reportage of the fears and fun of a group of gunners, nursing in their bosom the embryo Goon, forever punning, playing his trumpet or,if on guard duty, disguising himself as a tree in a hole. (His C.O. sent his batman to pour a can of water over him.)
The book spans events from January to May 1943, during Operation Torch the Allied invasion of Morocco and Algeria and the Tunisia Campaign in World War II.
