A beautifully bound first edition of this study of the relationship between Filippo Lippi and Lucrezia Buti, illustrated throughout. The first edition of this work.In a signed binding by Morrell.The romantic story of Filippo Lippi and Lucrezia Buti. Lippi wanted to paint Buti as the Madonna, and abducted her from her monastery and taking her to hs house. Buti sat for a painting and eventually bore Buti a son, Filippino. The pair received dispensation from the Pope to marry, but Lippi refused to marry Buti. Illustrated with a frontispiece, and sixteen plates.Collated, complete.Written by A. J. Anderson.Bookplate of Major Sir Brunel Cohen to the recto to the front endpaper. Cohen was a British Conservative Party politician, who massively campaigned on the behalf of disabled people after he lost both of his legs in the First World War. In a half calf Morrell binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, smart. A couple of minor marks to the boards and spine. Spine is a touch faded. Minor wear to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Bookplate to the recto to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean. Very Good Indeed
