A smartly bound first edition large paper copy of this popular historical poem by Sir Walter Scott, an epic narrative poem set at the home of Scott's friend. The first edition. Pages are watermarked 'J. Whatman 1810 - 1812'.The large paper copy. Imprint present to the tail of leaf cxi, page 39 is correctly numbered, capital 'L' signature and press figure '7' to the tail of page 81. Signature to page 329 is 'T', not '2T'.Bound without half-title and eleven pages of adverts. 'Rokeby' is a narrative poem set in Teesdale during the English Civil War, told in six cantos. An epic poem by Sir Walter Scott, which saw five editions in the year of publication, and sold ten thousand copies in its first three months.The poem grew from Scott's friendship with J. B. S. Morritt, whose home at Rokeby Park is the setting of the poem.Bookplate of D. B. Anderson to the front paste down. In a half calf binding with paper to the boards, rebound with new endpapers. Externally, smart, with only a few light marks to the boards. Minor bumping to the extremities. Bookplate to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with scattered spots. Bound without half-title and eleven pages of adverts. Very Good Indeed
