The first edition of this illustrated fictional work set during the third Afghan War by Captain Brereton, in a full calf prize binding. The first edition. In a full calf prize binding from 'Lewisham School' with their crest on the front board. Illustrated with a monochrome frontispiece and five monochrome plates by William Rainey. Collated complete. This work was written by Frederick Sadleir Brereton, a British Army medical officer and author. Captain Brereton wrote many works set during war, with this work being set during the Afghan War. In a full calf prize binding with 'Lewisham School's' crest to the front. Externally very smart with fading to the spine and the odd slight mark to the board. Front hinge starting. Internally firmly bound with prize inscription in ink to the front blank dated 1908. Pages lightly age toned with the odd spot, heavier to the front and rear and minor tidemarks to the tail of pp.352 and the rear blanks. Very Good
