About This Item
Berkeley: Oyez, 1976. First Edition. Hardcover. Near fine. This is number 60 of 250 copies signed by the author, with the prospectus laid in. A powerful narrative poem exploring the archetypal syzygy of the sexual act. Situated on the Mississippi as a symbol of the American earth and the American mood, it narrates the ordeal of two lovers who, in the course of a single night, overcome the impasse that initially divides them, consummate their love in the heights of physical passion, and arise at dawn refreshed, restored, at one with themselves and their world. Designed by Thomas Whitridgeas a tall quarto, the poem has been illustrated throughout with vibrant line drawings in copper red by Patrick Kennedy. The types are Goudy Modern and Spectrum Italic printed on German mouldmade paper. It has been bound in quarter leather, with gilt titles and decorated boards. Very light wear to the top corner of the front board; else fine.
