About This Item

New York: Harcourt Brace, 1939. First Edition. Signed presentation copy from the author Lewis Jacobs to Barrett C. Kiesling. Inscribed: “For Barrett, with friendship, Lewis Jacobs, 3/21/40”. Barrett C. Kiesling was the publicity director for film director Cecil B. DeMille from 1924-1927 and then graduated to the powerful position of the Publicity Director for MGM studios from 1928 to 1960. Very good in a very good dust jacket. One of the great landmark books dealing with American cinema, and The Rise of American film is still used today.
