James Whitcomb Riley (1849-1916) was an American writer and poet who began his career in 1875 writing verses in the old Hoosier dialect for the Indianapolis Journal newspaper. The illustrator, Will Vawter, grew up in Greenfield, Ind., where he was close to the author, James Whitcomb Riley. Vawter illustrated 11 volumes of Rile's poetry, sometimes using local residents as models. This volume contains 27 poems about farm life, including When the Frost is on the Punkin; Thoughts fer the Discuraged Farmer; and Wortermelon Time. In Very Good+ Condition: front fixed endpaper scraped; pp. 23 and 31 lightly soiled; otherwise, clean and tight; binding is clean and bright.
