The BOOK is in near Fine condition with a tiny bump to the lower rear edge and a hint of toning and spotting to the upper text-block. Publisher's original boards. The title page and the front board designed by Laurence Whistler. The book is protected in a removable Mylar archival cover. Author's presentation copy inscribed to his childhood friend Marjorie on the front endpaper : 'Marjorie from SS'. Marjorie Stirling (from 1949 Mrs Shaw), was the daughter of Judge Sir James Stirling, who lived at Finchcocks, near Weirleigh in Kent, and Sassoon saw her often as a child. She married Cecil Forster in 1914. She is referred to in Chap.3 of 'The Weald of Youth' as 'an early dancing partner at local balls the days before motor cars were much in use' and 'do you reverse?.How those words bring my silly self back to me, with my inability to make my white ties look as effortless as any other young mens.'. Extremely scarce with such attributes. More images available on request. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.
