About This Item

["Taylor and Adams, Boston". aft. 1854; before 1876.] 3 x 5½ inches. Envelope, pink and white colors, with gummed flap, no letter within. Some fading; very good.

A busy envelope with various text and type faces to serve not only as a functional method of letter transmittal, but as a mobile advertising vehicle as well.

S.S. Foss, Proprietor, yet another savvy New Englander, is here advertising the "Daily Patriot" at $3.00 per year as well as the "Woonsocket Patriot and Rhode Island State Register". Foss boasts of having the "Largest and Cheapest Newspaper in New England" and the "Largest circulation of any Country Journal [Country Journal?] in the United States".

One last entrepreneurial entreat: "JOB PRINTING ALL KINDS" was available.
