About This Item
Cambridge: The Belknap Press of Harvard University Press, 1983. Hardcover. xix, 482p., illustrated with plentiful b&w exhibit photos and diagrams, including a few in color, later printing of the first issue, bright-white alkaline paperstock hardbound in pale cloth boards with a tinted backstrip lettered black and enclosed in the dust jacket. Nice condition; book itself is sound, square, clean and unmarked, while the dust jacket is presentable but has short raggedy tears now tacked down with tape to verso. Landes' text is very readable, to boot. Landes calls the engineering and distribution of timepieces a 'revolution', in the sense that gunpowder, and the telescope, and the harnessing of steam revolutionized European daily life, and made military incursions stick.
