The Pulitzer Prize-winning "New York" times" journalist (born 1933) boldly inscribes and signs the title page in black fineline: "To Bob Malott -- / Some ideas of mine to / compare with your own experiences, / Best Wishes / Hedrick Smith / 6/12/95." Recipient "Bob" is Robert Malott (1926-2018), noted Chicago civic/business leader, CEO of FMC Corporation, Republican politico and philanthropist.
